Adam Lallana reminded Liverpool fans of Iago Aspas with a nightmare corner

Just when they'd got over it

Things were starting to look up for Liverpool.

A 4-3 opening-day win at Arsenal gave them reason to believe, while cheers went up at the removal of Alberto Moreno from the starting line-up and Christian Benteke from the entire squad.

The Reds are starting the season with three successive away games due to work being carried out on Anfield, but a trip to newly-promoted Burnley wasn’t supposed to be too taxing given the victory in North London.

Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s team, first-half goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray put the Clarets two up at the break, and things got worse in the second half as Adam Lallana reminded fans of one of the most painful moments of the Brendan Rodgers era.

If someone mentions the name Iago Aspas to you, what will your mind immediately go to? His goals for Celta Vigo last season? The loan spell with Sevilla? Nope, it’s neither of those.

As is so often the case, Google autocomplete has the answer.

The Spaniard’s woeful set-piece against Chelsea all but ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League in 2013/14, and it’s still the thing that most fans remember him for.

That moment seemed to hang over Rodgers throughout the following season-and-a-bit, right up until the Northern Irishman was relieved of his duties last October.

But it’s a new era, and they’ve moved on from that. Or at least they has until Lallana did his thing.

And we weren’t the only ones to notice the similarities.

We can’t bring you footage of the moment, but you’ll have to just take our word for it. And the word of all those other people.

One to look out for on Match of the Day tonight, that’s for sure.
