Fans think Lionel Messi was annoyed with Sergio Ramos in PSG training

Old rivalries renewed

Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos appear to have had their first disagreement since the pair both signed for Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

The duo went head-to-head for more than a decade during their time in LaLiga, and – somewhat surprisingly – became teammates last summer after securing moves to PSG as free agents.

Understandably, given their previous battles, fans were intrigued to see if Messi and Ramos could co-exist in the French capital.

The Parisians won Ligue 1 last season with Messi making 26 top-flight appearances – registering 21 goal contributions – while Ramos played on 12 occasions.

However, after Ramos attempted to tackle Messi in pre-season training, and caught the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner with his trailing leg, the pair appeared to be in disagreement about the challenge.

After beating the Spaniard, Messi went on to finish into the bottom corner. Immediately after, the former Barcelona man was visibly frustrated as Ramos attempted to calm things down and put his hand on the Argentine’s head.

How did social media react?

One Twitter user wrote: “Messi dribbling past Ramos in training, flashbacks to the good old times”.

Another added: “Lionel Messi angry with Sergio Ramos for trying to tackle him her during PSG Training session. Somethings Never Change”.

A third said: “defenders like Ramos giving 100% in training is what Messi didn’t get, this is not Barcelona where you get pampered all the time. Play like you’d play in the games or f**k off”.

Another wrote: “Some things just don’t change”.

PSG unbeaten in pre-season under new manager Christophe Galtier. The new boss, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino earlier this month, will be challenged with winning the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Galtier – who won Ligue 1 with Lille in 2021 – has reportedly introduced three strict rules for his players. According to Marca, phones are not permitted while players have breakfast and lunch.

Additionally, all players must eat their meals together at the club’s Camp des Loges in order to prevent any cliques emerging. As well as this, lateness is not being tolerated whatsoever.

The 55-year-old is said to have nstructed players to arrive for training between 8:30 and 8:45. Should a player arrive late for training, without a valid and reasonable explanation, they will be sent home.
