Covid-19 outbreak at Leyton Orient puts Tottenham cup game in doubt

The Tuesday night fixture is expected to be postponed imminently

Tottenham’s Carabao Cup game against Leyton Orient will almost definitely be postponed after the League Two side confirmed an outbreak of Covid-19 amongst members of their first-team squad.

A statement released by Orient on Monday explained that after Covid-19 testing was conducted following their game against Mansfield Town on Saturday, the club received formal confirmation that ‘a number’ of first-team members had tested positive for the virus.

Orient had been due to welcome Spurs in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, but have now notified the Premier League club and the EFL about the developments. It is, understandably, extremely unlikely the game will go ahead as planned. The statement also confirmed they had contacted Mansfield and Plymouth Argyle and Oldham Athletic – their three most recent opponents – and that the stadium and training facilities had been closed until further notice.

‘Leyton Orient’s priority is the health and well-being of its players and staff,’ the statement added. ‘Those who have tested positive will now strictly follow government self-isolation guidelines.’
