Kylian Mbappe shuts Belgium players down after reaction to semi-final defeat

He shut them down in style, on and off the pitch

They didn’t take it in the best of spirits

It’s rather safe to say that Belgium’s players did not respond well to being knocked out of the World Cup by France on Tuesday.

Roberto Martinez’ side fought hard throughout the match but ultimately struggled against a strong, skilled France team who eventually took control and secured their place in the World Cup final.

After the match, Belgian players responded in a fashion one would expect: angry.

Two players in particular showed their anger publicly after the game: Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard.

Courtois said after the game: “France have played anti-football.”

Meanwhile, his Chelsea teammate was, if anything, a little blunter, saying “I prefer to lose with this Belgium than win with that France.”

All in all, it was a little salty, and French wunderkind Kylian Mbappe was not having any of it.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has made a habit of showing up on the big occasions and his response to the Belgian comments was evidence that it doesn’t just happen on the pitch.

Reacting to the dissenting comments from the Belgian players, Mbappe simply said:

“The Belgian players can think what they want. If I offended them, then I apologise. But I am in the final.”

That is what we call shade. Done well.
