Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal has submitted a €300m transfer bid for France footballer Kylian Mbappé, according to reports.
If Paris Saint-Germain accept the offer, it will break the world transfer record, currently €200m, which was set when PSG signed Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.
In a further twist, Mbappé has reportedly been offered the chance to play in Saudi Arabia for just one season - at which point, he will be free to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024.
The Saudi side would pay the striker a reported salary of €700m for a single season with the club.
Mbappé’s future is hot conversation at the moment after the Frenchman confirmed he will not extend his deal at Paris Saint-Germain – which expires next summer.
He also said he has no plans to leave PSG until the end of the 2023/2024 campaign.
The Qatari-owned team, meanwhile, are now finally prepared to sell the forward so that they don’t lose him for free. They have even left him out of the club’s pre-season tour of Japan.
Real Madrid are keen to wait until next summer to sign Mbappé, in order to avoid paying an inflated fee.
And now, it has been reported Al Hilal are interested in signing the World Cup winner.
As part of the reported deal, they will offer the 24-year-old €700m-a-year while also paying PSG a fee of €200m to sign him. The contract will also contain a clause that allows him to join Madrid in 2024.
Los Blancos are looking for a new long-term strike after Karim Benzema’s departure at the end of last season.
The Saudi Pro League has signed a raft of big names this summer including Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, Rúben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and more and plan to try and attract even more.
Al Hilal are one of the most active sides and have reportedly held discussions about trying to sign Harry Kane this summer and have also been linked with Aleskandar Mitrović and Allan Saint-Maximin.
