‘Now when you see the ticket prices and the amount of tickets you get, wow’

Jurgen Klopp has criticised UEFA for the meagre ticket allocation and expensive prices it is offering to fans for the Champions League final in Paris later this month.

The Reds will face-off against Real Madrid on May 28 after beating La Liga club Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate in the semi-final.

Klopp’s side will contest the biggest fixture in club football for the third time in five seasons, and will play against Los Blancos in a re-run of the 2018 showpiece in Kyiv.

Madrid progressed to the final after knocking Manchester City out of the competition in sensational comeback fashion on Wednesday night.

Liverpool and Madrid allocated 20,000 tickets each

However, only 20,000 tickets will be allocated to each club for the clash at the Stade de France, which is running at a capacity of 75,000 for the final after replacing original host city St. Petersburg due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

While Klopp was keen to praise Liverpool’s fans for their consistent support this season, he also spoke of his incredulity at the ticketing situation.

“It’s so touching,” Klopp said. “Wherever we were, they made it our ground. The boys won all away games in this campaign which is absolutely incredible because we had so much support everywhere.

“Now when you see the ticket prices and the amount of tickets you get, wow… Did I read right that we only get 20,000, [Real Madrid] get 20,000, and it’s 75,000 seats? That makes 35,000… what? Where are these tickets?”

UEFA’s ticket approach criticised

Supporters are set to be charged prices of up to £579 for category A tickets, £411 for category B, £126 for category C and £50 for category D.

Despite this, Klopp insisted that he hopes fans are able to enjoy the final, wherever they end up watching it.

“These tickets are really expensive too,” Klopp added. “I cannot be more thankful for the people are doing, I know it’s massive what they are asked for, but that is the only bad part of the journey.

“I really hope they can all make it somehow. They will create an incredible atmosphere there.

“Paris is big enough that you can go there without a good ticket and have a good time, behave yourself, and be in the best possible mood. And if you cannot go there then watch it here, in any kind of surrounding it will be fantastic.

“What I love about this game is the world will be either red or white, one or the other. That’s really cool and makes it a proper final.”
