Jurgen Klinsmann sacked as US coach, people instantly jump to conclusions

Surely not...

Former Germany player Jurgen Klinsmann has been given the boot by the United States, five years on from taking the job as their coach.

Klinsmann, who also managed the German team in the 2006 World Cup, guided the US to the knockout stages of the 2014 competition too, a year after leading them to  victory in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The American team have lost their opening two qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, prompting them to take action.

“We remain confident we have quality players to help us advance to Russia 2018,” said US Soccer president Sunil Gulati.

“But the form and growth of the team up to this point left us convinced that we need to go in a different direction.”

With reports surfacing that Gareth Southgate had undergone his interview for the England jobs just hours before the announcement about Klinsmann, it seems unlikely that anyone but he will take charge of the English team on a permanent basis.

Not that this was ever going to stop people from jumping to conclusions…

Surely not…
