And the Manchester United keeper has paid the price after teammate Juan Mata decided to share an embarrassing throwback snap.

Fortunately for the rest of us he decided to it in a very public way - with his four million Instagram followers.

Juan posted the snap of de Gea looking convincingly like MaCaulay Culkin circa Home Alone 2, yesterday as a bizarre birthday present.

Adding the comment: “Happy birthday @d_degeaofficial. Time flies??”

Mata clearly sees the funny side.
