José Mourinho appears to have ended Michael Carrick’s United career in brutal fashion

It's not looking for the 35-year-old veteran.

José Mourinho has reportedly told Manchester United veteran Michael Carrick he is too old to receive another contract.

The 35-year-old was rumoured to be close to securing a one-year extension after seemingly forcing his way back into the Portuguese’s plans in recent weeks.

Carrick has had a distinguished career at the club since joining from Tottenham for around £14m in 2006, picking up five Premier League winners medals in the process.

However the United boss appears to have put paid to the idea of him extending his Old Trafford career in brutal fashion.

According to The Mirror Mourinho said:

“Let’s be honest. I have seen many positives in Carrick. But I cannot go to his identity card and delete five years.

“Michael is not 30.”

Carrick turns 36 this summer and it looks as if that could be when his tenure at Old Trafford comes to an end.
