‘He believes he is God and can do whatever he wants’

Jose Enrique has called out Cristiano Ronaldo for his actions in the wake of Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday.

The Portuguese international was filmed appearing to slap a phone out of a fan’s hand as he approached the tunnel at Goodison Park.

Everton picked up a crucial three points as they beat United 1-0 thanks to a deflected goal from Anthony Gordon.

Ronaldo publicly apologised after the video emerged on social media, offering the aggrieved supporter a trip to Old Trafford ‘as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship’.

Enrique slams Ronaldo for phone-smashing incident

Former Liverpool defender Enrique criticised Ronaldo for the incident, claiming that the 37-year-old ‘believes he’s god’.

The Spaniard, who retired in 2017, reposted the video on his Twitter account, alongside the caption: “I always said it. Don’t like him he believe is God and can do whatever he wants. That doesn’t take that is been one of the best players in the history of football but as a person don’t like him”.

Enrique has previously named Ronaldo as the toughest opponent he ever faced in the Premier League, but added that the former Real Madrid man is the “second best in the world” behind Lionel Messi.

Merseyside Police ‘investigating’ the incident

Merseyside Police are investigating an alleged assault after Ronaldo appeared to break the supporter’s device, with a spokesperson for the force said they were liaising with both Manchester United and Everton.

After the video emerged on social media, United said that the club was aware of “an alleged incident” and would “co-operate with any police inquiries”.
