Jose Aldo scotches rumours of UFC 200 injury blow

The man has history

The Brazilian insists he is fit and firing for Frankie Edgar at UFC 200.

When a Facebook page under the Combate banner reported, on Tuesday evening, that Jose Aldo was an injury doubt for next month’s event, it barely caused a flutter.

The former UFC featherweight champion has pulled out of five championship bouts in recent years – most recently ahead of his proposed UFC 189 title bout with Conor McGregor. Rumours circulated that ‘Scarface’ had injured himself whilst sparring.

Aldo was lightning quick to call bullshit on the claims and insist he is on course for the showpiece event in Las Vegas.

As Aldo was still at the gym, his wife Viviane Pereira tweeted a statement on his behalf. It read:

‘I don’t know where this lie that I’m injured came from,. I’m great, healthy, injury-free, training more than ever and stoked that my movie is about to come out.

‘I think someone might be trying to take me out of this fight, but it’s not going to happen. I’ll be there on July 9 to take back what’s mine.’

Once his sessions were done for the day, Aldo posted some gym pictures to prove he was ship-shape. PSG and Brazil footballer Thiago Silva happened to be on hand to cheer him on:

He tweeted out the Instagram link with the comment, ‘Thiago Silva showed up at training today. Nice to see you again, brother! You read that right: training! 100%! Where is the injury.”

As it stands, and as they are both still standing, Aldo and Edgar will fight for the interim featherweight strap on July 9.

After that, a likely bout with McGregor.
