Tearful Jordan Henderson and Jurgen Klopp share beautiful moment after Champions League win

Wayne Farry

Look at what it means to them

Jordan Henderson – captain of a Champions League winning team. Yes, you read that correctly. The kid with the Bebo account is now holding the Champions League above his head.

It seemed unlikely – even up until quite recently – but now it is so. Henderson has in recent years done away with the haters and become a player of genuine reckoning.

He has led his Liverpool teammates to two consecutive finals – sure, he’s not been the one scoring the goals, but as captain he provides something invaluable.

In addition, and this is something regularly derided in football, he genuinely cares. Like, really cares. Henderson is aware that he is not as technically gifted as some of his teammates, but he is where he is anyway.

It’s probably because of this exact reason that he was quite so emotional after Liverpool’s 2-0 win in the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano.

After the game, in which neither Henderson nor his teammates truly showed the full extent of their talent, Hendeson was pictured celebrating with his manager Jurgen Klopp, and the emotion was written all over his face.

He then hugs Rhian Brewster and Ki-Jana Hoever and members of Liverpool staff.

Picked up by the BT Sport cameras, Henderson could be seen with tears flowing down his cheeks. It was a moment that mattered, and it was a moment that he had worked his entire career to achieve.
