The veteran defender left Aston Villa last week

John Terry looks set to join up with his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard at Derby County, just days after it was announced that he would be leaving Aston Villa. The former Chelsea captain spent last season with the West Midlands side but was released after they failed to secure promotion to the Premier League, as they lost 1-0 to Fulham in the Championship play-off final. That departure has now paved the way for Terry to move to Pride Park, where Lampard was named manager earlier this week. The ex-midfielder, who had been working as a pundit on BT Sport, signed a three-year deal with the Championship club on Wednesday to replace now-Stoke City manager Gary Rowett as boss. One of the reasons Terry was released by Villa was his substantial wages, and it's been reported that he will have to take a large pay cut if he is to agree a deal with Derby, after the club's owner Mel Morris vowed to reduce the wage bill, which last season stood close to £35 million. If he does sign, Terry will be a part of Lampard's first ever season as a professional manager, and will be part of a team which has continually threatened to reach the Premier League but failed to do so.
