John Terry has taken an astonishing pay-cut to prolong his Chelsea career

When Roy Keane finished up his playing days, he warned his children there would be no more lavish holidays to Disney World. Euro Disney would have to do. John Terry is set for a similar discussion with his brood following reports of his salary for next season. Terry, who made his senior Chelsea debut in 1998, will turn 36 later this year and was thought to be heading for the lucrative Chinese Super League. A purported £12 million a season deal was in the offing if Terry fancied a move to China but he has opted to stay and fight for his place under new coach Antonio Conte. Terry has seemingly taken a massive pay-cut to remain at Stamford Bridge. The Sun report that his weekly stipend of £150,000 has been reduced to £50,000 while The Daily Mail estimate he will take home basic pay of £60,000 each week. There will be team and individual base bonuses thrown in on top so it won't be all prunes, custard and penny loafs over at the Terry household. At least he saved some dosh by cancelling the farewell kick-about he planned to have at the Bridge. The club were willing to give him use of the ground for free but Terry was set to foot the bill for the post-match revelries. Every penny counts when you're on £50k a week.
