John Terry cries in public and gets his new deal

If it works for toddlers it can work for multi-millionaire club icons.

Tantrums, the best way to get what you want since whenever they stopped sending children into coal mines. Since John Terry began his PR campaign to earn himself a new contract at Chelsea you got the sense there could only be one outcome. Billionaire Russian oligarchs are powerless in the face of a beloved man in his mid thirties crying in front of 40,000 people to get his way. https://twitter.com/AidanDonoghue/status/732152503299641344 So can anyone be surprised by the news Wednesday that the former England centre-half has been awarded a new one-year contract at Stamford Bridge, where he will presumably remain captain and emotional heartbeat. Terry's number was up back in January when it was announced his contract was not being renewed. Then Terry, who was and remains a marvellous if one-paced defender, showed a bit of form, looked like getting his contract, then made noises about wanting a better deal and finally cried in the centre circle. How to win friends and influence people, 101. Since making his debut in 1998 Terry has played 703 times for the first team and new boss Antonio Conte will be delighted to have such a powerful relic lingering around the dressingroom. Terry said: "I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I'm Chelsea through and through.

"I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one.  "Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world."

Best of luck Antonio, you'll need it.
