Bayern are ready to let the experienced centre-back leave, worried that injuries have taken their toll and that he is past his best. A move to Paris Saint-Germain now seems “inevitable” according to Abendzeitung München, a Munich based tabloid.

Boateng had a disastrous World Cup, as he was sent off in the second group game against Sweden, which Germany won, but ultimately proved to be a futile victory as they crashed out after losing to South Korea.

The defender was linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, but reportedly phoned José Mourinho personally to inform him that he wasn’t interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Benjamin Pavard will replace him at Bayern, after impressing at the World Cup. Pavard played a key role in France’s World Cup victory from right-back, but prefers to play at centre-back.
