Jermain Defoe: Tottenham can win the Premier League this season
'I see a trophy coming'
Tottenham are riding high at the top of the Premier League this season. As fans have come to expect from Jose Mourinho's famous second season in charge, the players have bought into his tactics, which are paying dividends, with star forwards Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in top form.
Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe, who was with the club when they last won a trophy in 2008, believes Tottenham can go all the way and win the Premier League this season.
"Of course they can. It's not me being biased, I'm just looking at the performances," said Defoe, speaking exclusively to Reece Mennie on Mennie Talks.
"I'm looking at the performances and we have Jose Mourinho. People can say what they want, but we have Mourinho and we are playing the way we are, so anything can happen. I see a trophy coming anyway."
The Rangers star, now 38, went on to say the partnership between the aforementioned Kane and Son is the best in world football at the moment, comparing their link-up to Pep Guardiola's famous Barcelona side.
"With Kane and Son, what Mourinho has done has been incredible.," Defoe said.
"Those two are the best partnership in world football at the minute.
"I think it is Mourinho understanding the players that he has got. At the end of the day, you're not going to tell Harry Kane to run into channels. Play the width of the box like you do, you're good to do that, and just save your energy for when you get your chances.
"Son is dynamic, so he runs in behind. He gets the ball and he is direct, he beats people.
"It's what Guardiola did at Barcelona, he played with the false 9 with Messi, with Henry on the left and Eto'o on the right. Messi is naturally going to come short for the ball, because he likes to get the ball and take people on, with Henry and Eto'o running in behind causing problems."
