Jack Wilshere suffered hairline fracture to his left leg during defeat at Tottenham

Another injury set back for the England international

Jack Wilshere’s season is over.

The Arsenal midfielder, loaned out to Bournemouth for the season, left the field during the 4-0 defeat at Tottenham last Saturday.

Although it wasn’t immediately clear what the nature of the problem was, an update posted on the Cherries’ website has confirmed that X-rays have revealed the England international suffered a hairline fracture to his left fibula.

This is enough to rule him out for the remainder of the season, with the statement adding that specialists will now work with the midfielder to determine how to go about his recovery.

“It is a big blow to lose Jack,” said the club’s manager Eddie Howe.

“We have loved working with him since he arrived at the club last August. He has made a huge contribution to our season, both on and off the pitch. We wish him a quick recovery and thank him for his effort and professionalism while he was with us.”

Assuming Bournemouth don’t extend their loan deal for Wilshere or make the move permanent, it now seems likely that he has played his last game for the south coast club. It remains to be seen whether he will feature in the plans of Arsene Wenger (or whoever else is in charge at the Emirates) by the time next season starts.
