Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he will be leaving Arsenal this summer via a statement on Instagram after failing to agree a new deal with the club.

He will leave on a free transfer, as his current contract expires at the end of the month.

Crystal Palace and West Ham have both been linked with the player, who boasts 34 England caps. Wilshere was a central figure to Roy Hodgson’s England teams and it is thought that their strong relationship could bring the player to Selhurst Park.

Wilshere has been at the club since 2001 and made his debut in 2008. He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bolton and a less successful year at Bournemouth, as he went looking for game time after a string of injuries knocked him down the pecking order.

The 26-year-old now faces the challenge of finding a new club where he will play regular first team football.

Wilshere has a lifelong bond with Arsenal. Understandably emotional to be leaving, he uploaded this video of some of his best moments in a red shirt.

Wilshere missed out on going to the World Cup this summer after a mediocre season and voiced his disappointment at being left out on social media.
