Toney woke up and chose violence

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has trolled Leeds United on Twitter after an old video of Leeds players mocking Bees boss Thomas Frank emerged on social media.

Jesse Marsch’s men – who find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League – are facing the prospect of being relegated from the top-flight, having registered just eight wins all season.

With three games remaining, the Yorkshire outfit are level on points with Burnley and just one point behind Everton, so there is hope of survival yet.

Leeds in the Premier League

Leeds United secured automatic promotion to the Premier League for the 2020/21 season following a 16-year absence after winning the 2019/20 Championship title.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, who was sacked by the club in February, Leeds enjoyed a successful return to the top-flight, finishing in ninth position.

However, this season has been incredibly disappointing and Marsch’s side will be hoping to avoid the drop at the expense of, most likely, Everton or Burnley.

In contrast, Brentford – who won promotion to the Premier League after winning the play-off final last season – look all but certain to stay up this campaign after a memorable season, and currently sit nine points above the Whites.

With this in mind, Bees frontman Toney, who has scored 14 goals in all competition this season, was keen to troll Leeds on social media. The 26-year-old quote-tweeted an old video on Twitter which showed Leeds players Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas singing about Brentford boss Frank in 2020.

Brentford missed out on promotion as the Whites won the title in the 2019/2020 season – which promoted celebrations with the trophy from the Leeds players. During their celebrations, a couple of players began to sing “mind the gap Thomas Frank”.

However, Toney – almost a year after the video was first posted on Twitter – has responded to the clip, sharing the footage on social media, writing: “Hmm.”

While Brentford and Leeds aren’t rivals by distance, they appear to have developed a rivalry over the years, which dates back to when they were both in the Championship.
