In-form Jesse Lingard’s latest goal has England fans saying the same thing

Are they right?

JOE

Jesse Lingard is in the form of his life.

A squad player for United for the past four season after finally earning a stint in the first team under Louis van Gaal, the Warrington-born forward sealed three points for Jose Mourinho’s men by scoring their second goal against Everton at Goodison Park. The goal followed his Boxing Day double to rescue a point against Burnley and another brace in the 3-1 victory at Arsenal earlier in December.

His recent form has contributed to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s demotion from United’s starting XI. Having only been on the fringes of the England team during their qualification campaign for the World Cup, his performances of late now appear to have convinced many England fans (mainly United supporters, we should add) that Lingard is worthy of a starting berth for the Three Lions.

His goal against Everton prompted many tweets calling for him to be a starter for Gareth Southgate – some even going as far as saying he should be ahead of Tottenham’s Dele Alli in the pecking order.

England’s next games come in late March, when they play friendly matches away against the Netherlands and at home to Italy.
