Plenty of stadiums have them, but Manchester United won’t be installing video screens anytime soon.
Large screens are a common feature of the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton among the clubs to have them at their grounds.
However, according to the Daily Mail, United will not install video screens at Old Trafford, because the club consider the ground to be a “football purist stadium.”
The report claims United explored the option of installing the screens, but opted against it. Old Trafford currently has several small scoreboards, but no large screen.
United are said to have had difficulty finding a location for a screen that wouldn’t obstruct the views of some spectators at Old Trafford.
However, according to the Mail, club officials believe a large screen would “besmirch United’s tradition.”
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has praised United’s fans, and said they are the most passionate of any set of supporters he has encountered during his managerial career.
“I have to say, I’ve been impressed by your dedication and commitment, as season ticket holders here at United,” the United manager writes in a message to fans as part of renewal brochure for season tickets.
“I’ve managed several clubs and I have never seen such unrivalled passion. The stadium is full every time we play and the support the players receive is special.”
