Manchester United fans are loving this impressive Henrikh Mkhitaryan statistic

And laughing at Philippe Coutinho

We’re not sure what this proves, but United fans are enjoying it.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has had a brilliant start to the season.

The Manchester United forward has played a key role in his team’s impressive results so far. Jose Mourinho’s team beat West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season, and followed that up with another 4-0 victory over Swansea City on Saturday.

In both games, Mkhitaryan recorded two assists, and already has three assists more than he got in the whole of last season.

Mkhitaryan impressive start to the season, and his feat of four assists in two games, has been contrasted with Philippe Coutinho’s past performances. The Liverpool midfielder hasn’t played a game this season, and has been absent from the squad because of a back injury – Barcelona’s interest in signing him might be also playing a part in his absence.

The Catalan club have had three bids for Coutinho rejected. The Brazilian wants to leave, but Liverpool are adamant he won’t be sold. If he does stay at Anfield, Coutinho will most likely return to the team in September, when the transfer market has closed, and by that point Mkhitaryan might have broken Coutinho’s assist record for a single season.

A lot of people – mostly United fans – noticed following Mkhitaryan’s performance on Saturday that the Armenian only needs another three assists to equal Coutinho’s record of seven last season, which is the most assists the Brazilian has recorded in a single season.

So, by the time Coutinho returns to his team, Mkhitaryan could easily have broken the Liverpool midfielder’s assists record for an entire season, given the rate he’s going at. United fans found the statistic funny.

However, some weren’t convinced that it meant anything significant.

What it does mean without any doubt is that you should put Mkhitaryan in your Fantasy Football team. The Armenian recorded 15 assists in his final season with Borussia Dortmund, and is on course to have a very productive season.
