He has been caught in the middle of a storm after he spoke about Arsenal Fan TV at his Oxford Union Q&A
Hector Bellerín answered questions at the Oxford Union this week. Over the course of the hour long Q&A, he covered a range of topics, including how he adapted to life in England at the age of 16 and Arsenal Fan TV.
His comments on the latter sparked some outrage and it’s easy to see why. No football fan wants to be accused of not being a proper fan, of not caring, especially by a player in an underperforming team.
Bellerín labelled those those success depends on the club’s failure as not being real fans, and this caused uproar within the Arsenal Fan TV community. It’s a complicated situation; the YouTube channels videos do attract more viewers when Arsenal lose, because opposition fans lie to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude, but that does not mean that those fans who feature in the videos want Arsenal to lose for their own personal gain.
To clear the situation up, Bellerín tweeted this afternoon.
There's some misleading quotes going around. At no point have I criticised Arsenal fan base. I have nothing but respect for all the support we get through ups & downs. I just voiced my opinion about a platform. Guess some people just can't take opinions about themselves🤷🏻♂️

Bellerín raises a good point about people not being able to take an opinion about themselves when they dish out criticism every week on YouTube.
