Maguire is reportedly close to joining the Hammers

Harry Maguire has been made a promise by West Ham United which has convinced him to make the move to east London.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that West Ham had agreed a £30m deal with Manchester United for the England international and finally put an end to a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Reporter Melissa Reddy said: “There’s a lot more optimism on [West Ham’s] end of getting a deal for Harry Maguire over the line because their £30million bid for the defender is still under consideration by Manchester United.

“That club had valued him at around £40million but a compromise in the region of £35million could see a transfer happen. So West Ham and United are not so far off in terms of price points for Maguire.”

Maguire had initially planned to stay and fight for his place but with Erik ten Hag seemingly preferring at least four defenders ahead of him – including the option of playing Luke Shaw at centre back – a move seems best suited for all parties.

The former Leicester City defender was removed from his duty as captain of United at the start of the season however according to ‘ex-West Ham employee’, (via West Ham transfers), David Moyes has promised to make Maguire captain of the Hammers if he completes a move to the London Stadium.

James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez are also said to be close to joining while a deal for Scott McTominay still remains in the pipeline.

West Ham begin their Premier campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on Saturday.
