One of German football’s brightest talents was rushed to hospital after collapsing during a youth league game on Tuesday.

Saido Balde, 14, of Hamburg was set to come on in the 60th minute of his side’s game against Oberliga side SV Eichede when he then collapsed.

Balde is suspected of having an epileptic seizure and collapsed to the ground, trembling before receiving medical attention.

As reported by Bild, the youngster remained in hospital until 4am on Wednesday (March 8) morning before being allowed to return home.

Hamburg are expected to carry out a series of medical tests before the 14-year-old is allowed to return to sporting action.

The match – in which Hamburg were leading 2-1 at the time – was subsequently abandoned following the incident.

Although only 14, Balde is considered to be one of Hamburg’s hottest prospects.

Having been drafted into the Under-17’s squad already, the talented winger has three goals and four assists in his last 15 appearances at that level, despite playing against players several years ahead of him.

He first joined the club at the age of 10, joining from SC Sternschanze and predominately plays on the right wing.

Additionally, Balde also holds both German and Portuguese citizenship, with both countries likely to approach him to play for them at international level.

Borussia Dortmund, Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain are all clubs keeping close tabs on the youngster and have sent scouts to watch him play as they consider making an approach to sign him.

Nike and Adidas have also been linked with potential sponsorship deals for the winger.
