Jack Grealish sees funny side as Leeds fans shower him with paper

JOE

Grealish – and pretty much every other City player – was targeted

Jack Grealish appeared to see the funny side as Leeds fans targeted him with balls of scrunched up paper during Manchester City’s win at Elland Road on Saturday evening.

Leeds fans were encouraged to take part in a pre-game mosaic, with sheets of paper left on seats for them to hold up ahead of kick-off.

Later on, with the first half going on, some supporters crumpled up the pieces of paper, throwing them in the direction of City players when taking corners or throw-ins.

This continued throughout the game, with even Leeds’ Raphinha having paper thrown in his direction as he prepared to take a corner in the second half.

Grealish laughed it off

It reached a climax with nearly an hour played. With City 2-0 up by that point, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden went across to take a short corner.

As footage shows, attempts to clear the area of the paper before the kick was taken saw Leeds supporters throw more in their direction.

Grealish didn’t seem to mind, with the former Aston Villa captain seen laughing as he caught one piece of paper before tossing it away.

City were able to reclaim top spot after briefly being overtaken at the top of the league by Liverpool, who won at Newcastle earlier in the day.

Having taken the lead through Rodri, City weathered a few difficult moments in the first half. After the break, Nathan Aké was able to double their lead before Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho made absolutely certain of the points late on. 4-0.
