Most players would have scored an own goal in this situation, but Giorgio Chiellini isn't most players.
The last time we checked (and we checked very recently) there is only one world class defender named Giorgio Chiellini who plays for Juventus.
Juventus are through to the Champions League final after beating AS Monaco 2-1 (4-1 agg) in the second leg of the semis on Tuesday night.
While Mario Mandzukic and Dani Alves will be receiving a lot of the accolades for their goalscoring heroics, the best offence is often a good defence. Chiellini was one of the stand-out performers at the other end of the pitch against the Ligue 1 outfit.

There was one moment in particular involving the Italian that was so incredible, he actually celebrated it as if it was a goal.
Benjamin Mendy whipped in a dangerous low cross into the box that took a slight touch off the attacker at the near post and was heading straight towards Radamel Falcao who would have been left with an easy finish. However, standing in the way was Chiellini, who somehow managed to intercept the ball and knock it past the post, where most defenders would have likely turned it in for an own goal.
Check out the remarkable feat of defending in the video embedded below.
