Gary Neville backs plans to demolish and rebuild Old Trafford

'Man United's facilities have fallen behind.'

Gary Neville agrees with a potential Manchester United plan to demolish Old Trafford as he believes that the current stadium has declined. According to reports, Man United are exploring the option of potentially demolishing their stadium. At the very least, the club's owners want to redevelop the ground, which was built in 1910 and hasn't been upgraded since 2006.

Old Trafford redevelopment

Another option for Man United is to rebuild the south stand over the railway behind it. The idea was considered problematic in the past due to the logistics of rebuilding the stand due to its proximity to the railway line. The third option is for the club to leave the stadium intact and revamp all four sides of spectator and corporate areas within Old Trafford. What is for sure is that Man United's stadium, England's largest club stadium with a capacity of 76,000, needs to be modernised. Neville was strong in his view that the toughest option is the best choice and that demolishing the stadium could benefit the club going forward. The former Man United captain agreed with the rebuild as it would be more expensive to renovate the current Old Trafford. "I actually think that it would be the right move.

"I think by the time that they have spent money on Old Trafford, the existing one, then I think you would be better off building a brand new, better, super stadium.

"I do think that Manchester United should always be at the forefront of stadiums. Have the best facilities and they have fallen behind."
