Gary Neville is simply not a fan of Xherdan Shaqiri.
Shaqiri’s attitude has been criticised by the Manchester United legend and in spite of Shaqiri’s stunning bicycle kick against United at the weekend, Neville’s mind will not be changed on Liverpool’s new signing.
The Swiss powerhouse moved to Jurgen Klopp’s side earlier this month after the Reds triggered his £13.5 million release clause.
And after scoring a cracker on his debut, Shaqiri’s new fans hastened to remind Neville what he said about the 26-year-old on ITV last month.
“I’m not a fan of Shaqiri to be honest with you,” Neville said ahead of Switzerland’s World Cup opener against Brazil. “I think that was to be fair made worse by the fact that he distanced himself from his team-mates at Stoke.
“They were unprofessional last season, there’s no doubt. And he epitomises it.
“He could score the goal of the tournament and he could have the most amazing game.
“But he could also be there for three matches, do nothing and just amble and waddle around.
“To be honest with you with him, players like that I can’t have to be honest with you, I struggle with it.”
Neville’s Twitter mentions were awash with messages of abuse after Shaqiri found the net on his first appearance for Liverpool.
But the Sky Sports pundit has warned Reds fans that they can expect to see examples of Shaqiri’s questionable mindset once the season gets underway.
