Arsenal’s Gabriel stretchered off in tears during game with Manchester City

Arsene Wenger’s preseason has been a costly one.

While most fans are still expecting the Arsenal boss to bring in a striker in what’s left of the transfer window, he will almost certainly have to look at bringing in some defensive reinforcements.

With Laurent Koscielny’s Euro 2016 campaign earning him an extended break ahead of the new season, Per Mertesacker’s knee injury in the friendly against Lens two weeks ago was far from ideal as Wenger prepares for the opening Premier League fixture with Liverpool next weekend. To make matters worse, it was later revealed that the German required surgery and would be out for a matter of months.

In their final preseason match against Manchester City in Sweden, Wenger’s defensive problems worsened.

Gabriel had to be stretchered off the field of play in tears after picking up what appears to be another serious injury. Although there’s no confirmation at this stage as to what the Brazilian has done, he instantly reaches for his  lower left leg after the tackle.

After their opener against Liverpool next week, Arsenal travel to the King Power Stadium to face champions Leicester City.

Hopefully, Gabriel’s injury isn’t as severe as it appears to be and he’s back in action soon.
