Frustrated Jamie Vardy punches his own FACE in opening day defeat at Hull

Ouch...

Just in case you weren’t aware, Leicester City won the Premier League last season.

A matter of weeks from lifting the trophy at the King Power Stadium, Claudio Ranieri’s men were kicking off the defence of their title away at newly-promoted Hull.

On paper, it was quite a kind season opener for Leicester. Although they were away from home, their hosts haven’t had the best of summers since sealing their promotion back to the top flight in May. Steve Bruce, the man that guided them to promotion from the Championship, has left the club and caretaker boss Mike Phelan had just 13 fully fit senior players at his disposal.

But against the odds, the champions lost the match, 2-1.

After a controversial Riyad Mahrez penalty cancelled out Hull’s opener, Robert Snodgrass scored the winner for Hull with over half an hour to play.

Jamie Vardy, whose goals were a significant factor in Leicester push to league glory last season, cut a frustrated figure. So frustrated in fact, that cameras captured the moment he plunged his cast covered fist into his own face.

Leicester’s next match sees them welcome Arsenal – the side that finished last year’s campaign as runners up – to the King Power.
