Frenkie de Jong prefers move to Chelsea as he ‘doesn’t like’ Manchester

Another blow for Man United’s hopes

Frenkie de Jong prefers a move to Chelsea over Manchester United if he is to leave Barcelona this summer as he doesn’t like the city and believes the club is run ‘erratically’.

United agreed a deal with Barça for the transfer of De Jong last week, however issues over the £17m the Catalan giants owe the midfielder in deferred wages and bonuses have meant the move has stalled.

Spanish outlet Sport are now claiming that the Dutch international has no interest in making the move to Old Trafford this summer and if forced out of the Camp Nou, would prefer a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

De Jong is reluctant to leave the LaLiga side, but Barça are resigned to cashing in on him as they know that the funds they receive will help them to balance the books and allow them to register their four new signings: Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

De Jong isn’t interested in a move to to Manchester

The 25-year-old is also said to have doubts about living in the city of Manchester, a place he has reportedly claimed isn’t his favourite place.

He also has concerns over the way United is ran, claiming that the club’s management run the club ‘erratically’. The lack of Champions League football on offer in the North West is also a contributing factor.

But should the midfielder leave against his personal wishes, he is said to be a fan of the project new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has in place at Stamford Bridge and that London is seen as a ‘very attractive’ city to live in by De Jong and his fiancée.

Bayern Munich, who recently signed De Jong’s international teammate Matthjis de Ligt, are also said to be monitoring his situation.
