Frenkie de Jong hits out at Barcelona as Man United transfer saga continues

More drama

Frenkie de Jong has taken a swipe at Barcelona as his ongoing transfer saga continues to drag on.

For what felt like the 100th time last week, a deal between Barça and Manchester United was agreed for a fee in the region of £63m, but there are still complications to the transfer.

Barcelona owe the midfielder £17m in deferred wages and bonuses and have asked De Jong to take just a fraction of that (£3m) and want United to pay the rest.

De Jong left frustrated by Barcelona

De Jong himself is reluctant to leave the Camp Nou and Barcelona have echoed those sentiments, well at least publicly.

Behind the scenes there is a willingness to part ways with the 25-year-old in order to help balance the books as they continue to remain in a perilous financial state.

Despite this, La Blaugrana have spent in excess of £92m this summer, bringing in Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie (albeit, both on free transfers) as well as Raphinha and marquee signing, Robert Lewandowski.

The transfer story has rumbled on and on and on, with no sign of it coming to an end any time soon and even De Jong seems to be getting fed up with it all.

A post on Barcelona’s latest Instagram criticised the club for the way they have behaved during the saga, saying: “I dislike the way we have handled Frenkie’s situation.”

Fans noticed that the midfielder had liked the comment also, indicating he is just as frustrated as everyone else is at how long this transfer is taking.

United still making moves in the transfer market

Although they are at a stumbling block with one player, United have still been busy in the market and have confirmed three signings.

Full-back Tyrell Malacia has joined from Feyenoord while Erik ten Hag has opted to reunite with players he knows best, bringing in Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. Eriksen joins on a free transfer while Martinez leaves Ten Hag’s former employers Ajax to link up at Old Trafford.
