Horse racing legend Frankie Dettori has been rushed to hospital following a incident that saw his car crash and flip over on Wednesday evening, as reported by The Mirror.

The Italian retired racer was in a car travelling through the area of Newmarket in Suffolk when the vehicle reportedly collided with another vehicle, leaving Dettori with "several injuries" according to reports.

Dettori's representatives, quoted by reports, said Dettori's car "spun in the road and flipped over after the rear passenger side was hit."

Emergency services are then said to have attended the scene, taking the 55-year-old to a nearby hospital.

He has been treated for a broken thumb and several broken ribs, and is still in hospital under observation.

The following statement has been provided by Dettori's representatives H Talent Management, on his behalf.

“Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Frankie was driving, causing it to spin and flip.

"Frankie was taken to hospital, where he was found to have sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb.

"His injuries are still being assessed, and he remains in hospital for further scans and observation.
