The idea is simple. We take a photo from an important moment in a game of football, cut out the key figure(s) involved and ask the Twitter masses to do use their imagination and photo editing skills to do the rest.
On Monday, we chose poor old David Marshall, desperately scrambling back to his goal in an unsuccessful attempt to stop
Patrik Schick scoring the longest range goal in European Championship history.

Honestly, we were a little taken aback by the sheer volume of responses we had to the initial tweet. It made this - choosing our favourite 10 - all the more challenging as a result.
With that in mind, please keep in mind that these are only our favourite 10 replies, and that there are many, many more brilliant / ridiculous alternatives in the replies to this tweet:

David Marshall the Australian cricketer, by @ajay_chambers
Cricket fans will instantly recognise this as the immediate aftermath of Allan Donald's run-out in the 1999 World Cup semi-final between Australia and South Africa. But look again. Someone else has joined in the Aussie celebrations.

David Marshall taken down outta nowhere, by @eddie_roche
Those who know even the slightest thing about wrestling will be able to spot that this is Marshall being taken down by Randy Orton and his trademark finisher. Those who don't will probably still be able to recall that this became a meme in itself not so long ago.

David Marshall as E.T, by @danieljrajaiah
Look, the thing with this is it's up to you how much effort you want to put in. Very often, the most eye-catching replies are those that have taken minimal effort. Alternatively, some go all out, and make entire film posters - such as this by @danieljrajaiah, who has imagined Marshall starring as the key figure in a Steven Spielberg classic and mocked up an entire poster. He certainly was a long way from home...
