Egypt look sure to be knocked out of the World Cup after just two rounds of games after losing 3-1 to hosts Russia tonight.
Mo Salah started the game for Egypt, but never looked fully fit, still struggling with a shoulder injury. He scored a consolation penalty but it wasn't enough to inspire a comeback. Russia meanwhile were still riding the wave of positivity after their mauling of Saudi Arabia on day one. They carried that energy into tonight's game and were dominant throughout.
Denis Cheryshev scored another goal to bring his tally to three in two games after his brace against Saudi Arabia, but Russia received a helping hand from Egypt when Ahmed Fathi sent the ball into his own net in calamitous fashion.
Russia have surprised a few people with two strong performances so far, albeit against weak opposition. The hosts look set to qualify alongside Uruguay, who will play Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani will be rubbing their hands together after watching the thrashing that Russia gave them on the opening day.
