Sky Sports reporter tries to interview random person who he thinks is Huddersfield’s new manager

Well, that was embarrassing

An incredibly cringe-worthy moment happened during Sky Sports’ covering of Manchester City’s visit to Huddersfield of Sunday afternoon.

This week Huddersfield terminated manager David Wagner’s contract, as they sat rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

The bookie’s favourite to replace him is Bourissia Dortmund’s second team coach, Jan Siewert. Sky Sports thought they had spotted Siewert in the crowd, so they sent out touchline reporter Patrick Davidson to grab him.

Only it wasn’t.

It was actually a charity chief executive and Manchester City fan named Martin Warhurst.

Later in the game, the camera cut back to him as he was enjoying his new-found fame.

“It was bizarre.” Warhurst later told PA.

“Basically what happened is I was sat in the crowd and suddenly I was aware of a guy coming towards me from the right hand side”

“He said, ‘Are you Jan, the new manager?’ I laughed and said, ‘No, no, that’s not me. I’m Martin from Wakefield’.”

Huddersfield has made an enquiry to Dortmund for Siewert to become their new manager. Dortmund director confirmed that an approach had been made, but that “nothing is decided yet”.

The German club reportedly want €300,000 for Siewert’s services if he heads to Huddersfield.

36-year-old Siewert is currently in the same role that Wagner was in before he left to join the Terrier in 2015.
