Scott McTominay is worth more than Mohamed Salah, study finds

So McTominay is better than Salah, right?

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is worth more than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, according to a new study.

A study by CIES Football Observatory calculated the monetary values of 100 players across the top five leagues in Europe.

The research team has created an algorithm that predicts how much the Europe’s biggest clubs will need to spend in order to sign the top players in January.

Using said algorithm, CIES has calculated that McTominay is worth €67.2m (£56.7m) in comparison to Salah who is worth €66.1m (£55.25m).

The Liverpool forward has registered 23 goals and nine assists in 26 appearances so far this season, where Scottish central midfielder has scored just one goal in 21 games.

While their goalscoring ability is not an accurate way to compare the players, Salah won the Premier League’s Player of the Month for October 2021, as well as bagging the Goal of the Month, and comfortably leads the league in goal involvements.

CIES’s findings will unsurprisingly shock many people, especially considering the league position of the two respective clubs.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently find themselves in third position, 11 points behind league-leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

On the other hand, the Red Devils are in seventh position, four points behind four-placed Arsenal with a game in hand – and 22 points behind City.

Elsewhere on the list, talented youngster Mason Greenwood is fourth on the list – worth €133.9m (£112m).

The 20-year-old is behind Erling Haaland (€142.5m/£119m) and Man City’s Phil Foden (€152.6m/£127.5m), with Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior the most valuable player, valued at €166.4m (£139m).

The Brazilian has registered 12 goals and nine assists in 25 appearances this season, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side boasting a five point lead at the top of La Liga.
