PSG set to record losses of £317m after details of Kylian Mbappé’s contract emerge

Paris Saint-Germain are set to record huge losses of £317m as fresh details about Kylian Mbappé's contract have emerged. Mbappé signed a three-year contract extension in May after the club convinced him to turn down an approach from Real Madrid and commit his future to the French champions. However reports have claimed that the forward has quickly become disillusioned with life at the Ligue 1 side and is already looking for an escape route out of the Parc Des Princes. PSG's heavy spending in recent years has also coincided with transfer figures in the sport inflating to an all-time high, but the additions of numerous star players has left the squad bloated, with players deemed surplus to requirements still earning astronomical wages. Despite the need to trim the squad only one player left in the summer as Mitchel Bakker departed on a permanent deal to join Bayer Leverkusen. L'Équipe have now reported that the French side are set to post a record loss for the 2021-22 campaign, with Mbappé's new contract set to make up the bulk of the losses. The Frenchman's contract is believed to be costing the club around £540m over the course of the three years, with a third of the total (roughly £180m) included in last season's accounts. Additionally, the French club did record an income of £686m but were forced to pay £8.5m to UEFA in fines due to their losses. Even though PSG have suffered huge losses it didn't stop from having a busy transfer window to prepare Christophe Galtier for his first season in charge. Renato Sanches, Carlos Soler, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha and Nordi Mukiele all joined the club in the summer. Related links:
