Premier League clubs are exploring the idea of segregating players according to their vaccination status in order to combat fears of a spike in covid infections this winter.

Several clubs have been forced to leave first-team players at home due to their vaccination status

The issue of vaccinations has resurfaced in recent days after N'Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were left out of Chelsea's pre-season tour of the USA for not meeting the entry requirements due to their vaccination status. Crystal Palace were also forced to leave several first-team stars at home ahead of their pre-season tour of Singapore and Australia as they didn't meet entry requirements either - however it wasn't specified if the reason was vaccine-related. Key players such as Wilfried Zaha, Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and others have been left out the squad, with the Eagles taking just 10 senior outfield players with them. Players' vaccination statuses have become a huge influence on the way clubs operate their transfer business too, with clubs reluctant to sign players who have not yet received a dose, or have only had one of the covid jabs required.

Clubs are looking to limit the threat of covid infections in every way possible

Winter is expected to see a sharp rise in the number of infections and the Daily Mail have reported that clubs are looking into the possibility of taking every measure possible to reduce the threat of infections. One option is to segregate the training ground, meaning those who haven't been vaccinated would be forced to train and spend time away from the rest squad when on site. Clubs are also encouraging the agents of players to persuade them to get the jab.
