Greenwood will remain on bail following a court hearing

Mason Greenwood will remain on bail following a court hearing on his arrest on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill. The Manchester United forward was arrested on January 30 on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman before being further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood's bail was initially due to expire on April 30

A hearing was held in court on Thursday over the 20-year-old's bail position where Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed he will remain on bail. It said: "Following a hearing yesterday (Thursday 23 June 2022), a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on Sunday 30 January 2022 remains on bail. "As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action." Greenwood's bail was initially due to expire on April 30 but GMP made an application to extend the deadline to the court. Currently no new dates have been announced for any further hearings.

Greenwood is still currently suspended by Man United

The forward is currently suspended by United and hasn't played for the side since the Premier League fixture against West Ham United on January 22. United also removed the option to buy Greenwood shirts - offering fans a free replacement if they had purchased one earlier in the season. Several of the 20-year-old's sponsorships also severed ties with Greenwood including brands such as Nike in repsonse to the allegations. Popular video games such as FIFA and Football Manager also removed Greenwood from their databases as they also took the decision to suspend any affiliation with the forward. Related links:
