Ten Hag won’t be on the touchline

Erik ten Hag will watch his Manchester United side from the stands this weekend thanks to a new Premier League rule.

United face Everton on Sunday but won’t have the Dutchman on the sideline as he serves a suspension.

Ten Hag has picked up three yellow cards this season in games against Luton Town, Tottenham and Arsenal.

New Premier League rules state that any manager/member of coaching staff who picks up three yellow cards is banned from the touchline for one game.

Previously it used to be four, but was changed to three at the start of this season.

Pep Guardiola and Marco Silva have already served touchline bans.

“To a certain point, of course you have to accept decisions and I should do as well,” the former Ajax man said after the win against Luton.

“We have a very competent coaching staff and they will take over. Of course to a certain point I can be involved but I can say my coaching staff is very competent.”

The Red Devils make the trip to Goodison Park with four wins their last five league games and sixth in the table.

This is Everton’s first game since they were hit with a 10-point deduction for breaching the league’s profit and sustainability rules, leaving them second from bottom and ahead of Burnley only via goal difference.
