Man United fans some of the least optimistic ahead of new season despite Ten Hag appointment

United fans are lacking in confidence despite a summer of change

Manchester United fans are one of the least optimistic group of supporters heading into the new Premier League season, according to a survey. The Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey asked fans from all 20 Premier League clubs to share their levels of optimism for the 2022/23 campaign on a scale of one-10 (one being not optimistic at all, 10 being very). But despite the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford and new signings on their way, confidence levels are not high amongst the Red Devils fanbase, who are ranked 17th in the table with a score of 5.8

Man City fans are the most optimistic fanbase

Compare that with the blue side of Manchester who, unsurprisingly, after their title-winning campaign last year, are top of the pile with a score of nine out of 10. The signing of Erling Haaland may also have an influence, with the forward tipped to make Pep Guardiola's side an even more dominant force. City's closest title challengers Liverpool are also optimistic heading into the season, with a score of 8.8.

Newcastle United fans are also extremely confident after their summer spending spree. Eddie Howe's side have vastly bolstered their squad with the likes of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and the permanent addition of Matt Targett.

Everton fans are struggling to feel optimistic for next season

Towards the lower end of the table, Everton fans are the least optimistic going into the new season, with a total of just 4.9. The Toffees narrowly avoided relegation last season and having sold key man Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window, Frank Lampard's side could be set for another long year if their fans' thoughts are anything to go by. Nottingham Forest fans are the most optimistic out of all three clubs promoted from the Championship last season. Forest will be in the top flight for the first time in 23 years and Steve Cooper has made plenty of additions to his squad as they look to make a good account of themselves amongst the country's elite.
