Modric, who is now approaching the age of 37, is currently in discussions to extend his stay at the club for another year and when asked how talks had been going, the Croatia captain took aim at Mbappe, saying that he was going to treat Madrid with respect.
"I won't. I won't do it, for sure. But let the club do it to me!" he said, as per 90 min.
"No, I'm kidding. We have a lot of trust between us, we get along very well and what has to happen will happen. But now it's the [Champions League] final and that's the most important thing. I don't want to think about anything else."
Modric was then asked if he believes there is anybody already at the club who can step up to the task and show that Madrid don't need Mbappe, to which he said: "It could be Vinicius. It could be Rodrygo. We have Camavinga and Valverde, who are young, who have done very, very well this season, and not only this one but also years ago."
