Lucas Paqueta injury

One of football’s more bizarre injuries

Lucas Paqueta was forced to undergo surgery on his hand after he suffered a freak injury… from flying a kite.

Yes, a kite. Bizarre, isn’t it?

The Lyon midfielder cut himself while flying the children’s play toy and even though it wasn’t anything too serious, the 24-year-old decided to undergo a minor operation to ensure it didn’t cause him any future problems.

Paqueta also warned of the consequences that people can face, even when playing with something as innocent as a kite, after posting a picture of himself with a bandage round his hand.

He tweeted: “Remembering children’s games also has its consequences. I went to fly a kite today and cut my finger. Everything is fine, but to avoid any movement problems in the future, I will have a minor surgery tomorrow. But it’s okay. Put it on high and cut me,” with a kite and laughing face emoji after.

The Brazilian’s injury is the latest in a long list of strange incidents where players have been injured. Honestly, some of these are almost unbelievable.

Richard Wright

Wright was set to start in goal during Everton’s FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Chelsea in the 2005-06 season but his playing time was cut short during the warm-up after he ignored the notice telling him not to warm up in the goalmouth.

The ‘keeper promptly twisted his ankle after falling over the sign. Just three years earlier Wright injured himself by getting suitcases out of the attic, damaging his shoulder.

Alex Stepney

Back in 1975 Manchester United defender Alex Stepney dislocated his jaw while shouting at his teammates during a game against Birmingham City.

Alan Mullery

In 1964, the Leeds United’s Alan Mullery was forced to miss the club’s tour of South Africa after he injured his back while cleaning his teeth.

As you can see, even the most simple of tasks can sometimes prove to be too much for our talented footballers.
