Atletico Mineiro's Hulk has revealed that he had to drink 30 litres of water following his side's game against Flamengo on Wednesday night after losing six kilograms during the game, meaning he struggled to provide a urine sample.
No we haven't made this up, this really did happen.
The former Porto and FIFA icon - whose real name is Givanildo Vieira de Sousa- took part in the 2-0 Copa do Brasil defeat in which he revealed his struggles with the anti-doping control after the game.
'That was the game in which I was most dehydrated'
Last year a member of the Mineiro physio team explained that the Brazilian loses a significant amount of weight when playing due to the amount he sweats.
As a result the club have to go to extreme lengths to ensure that the 35-year-old can remain hydrated before, during and after the game, however he struggled.
After the game on Wednesday Hulk lost a staggering six kilograms and was required to take on board an astonishing 30 litres of water to ensure that there was enough water in his body to provide a urine sample.
"Since I arrived at Atletico, that was the game in which I was most dehydrated. I lost six kilos today," he toldGlobo Esporte.
"It was tiring [doping control]. I was tired. I started [the game] with 97 kg, finished with 91 kg. I fell on anti-doping. I stayed there for four hours, drank 30 litres of water.
"But it was difficult to urinate. It worked. Now it's time to go home."
According to Marcathe former Zenit St. Petersburg man didn't leave the stadium until four am the following morning and had to take a private jet back to Belo Horizonte as all his teammates had already left.
