Hashtag United to receive first-ever transfer fee for eSports FIFA player

Hashtag United are set to make history after they received offers for esports FIFA player Tom Leese. The club, who play in the Isthmian League North and were founded by YouTuber Spencer Owen, have received two offers believed to be in the region of £50,000-£100,000 for gamer Tom Leese. Leese is seen as one of the best professional FIFA players in the world and currently has a contract at Hashtag United, representing them at tournaments. Whilst big money transfers between esports team have taken place before for other games, such as Fortnite and League of Legends, Sky Sports reports that this would be a first for a FIFA player. At the highest level, esports pros can play in front of thousands at packed out arenas, and can earn around £100,000 a month. Their social media brand and following also makes them attractive options for organisations looking to attract sponsors. A source told Sky Sports News: "Organisations sign a player like this to grow their brand and attract sponsors. If they get the best player they'd gain access to significantly better sponsorship opportunities." Leese is a Tottenham fan and spends around 10 hours per day practising ahead of tournaments. It pays off as well.
