Maguire was selected by Gareth Southgate for his 26-man squad for the World Cup, which begins next month. The centre-back has struggled for game time under Erik ten Hag this season, but his impressive performances at international level have earned him a call-up.
Amongst many of the talking points in the build-up to the World Cup is the decision to award Qatar the tournament given their appalling human rights records, which includes the treatment of migrant workers and a ban on same-sex relationships.
The defender said that he was unaware of the issues people faced before but believes the decision to host the tournament in the Gulf State has improved the situation due to the country being in the spotlight.
