Harry Kane receives his MBE from Prince William after World Cup heroics

Ample reward for bringing football home

Harry Kane was at Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon to collect his MBE for services to football. England's World Cup campaign last summer was spearheaded by the Tottenham Hotspur star, who captained the team and netted six goals en route to the semi-finals. Such heroics bagged him the Golden Boot in the process and capped another impressive year with Spurs, hitting 41 goals in 2017/18 with 24 already under his belt this season. Prince William had the honour of awarding Kane his MBE after the player was named alongside manager Gareth Southgate, who was given an OBE in the New Year's honours list. Joining Kane at the Palace were parents Kim and Patrick Kane and fiancee Kate Goodland. Afterwards, he told reporters: "I'm so proud, it's a bit out the comfort zone to be off the pitch, but it's a great day for me and my family. "With football you're in your comfort zone, even in front of thousands of people. Here, you don't want to mess anything up." Also receiving their honours on Thursday were fashion editor Joanna Coles, Wahaca co-founder and Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers, holocaust survivor Vera Schaufled, and Mohamed Mamoud - the imam who prevented fellow muslims from retaliating against far-right terrorist killer Darren Osborne after the Finsbury Park attack in June 2017.
